Four people dressed as pirates push a decorated cart labeled "Blazing Buccaneers" in front of a large, cheering crowd during lively Mocksville bed races at night.

Main Street was filled with laughter, festive lights, and rolling beds as Mocksville kicked off the Christmas season with the 14th annual “Twas the Night Before” Bed Race on November 21. Eighteen spirited teams raced down the street while hundreds of enthusiastic spectators lined the sidewalks, cheering on one of the town’s most loved holiday traditions.

A Cozy Night of Community and Christmas Spirit

Families, friends, and holiday fans gathered early to find their favorite viewing spots. Race announcer Rick Donathan warmed up the crowd with Christmas trivia and music challenges, while DJ Barry Rentz of the Mobile Jukebox kept the beat going with holiday hits and dance tunes between heats.

Mocksville’s Director of Marketing and Community Development, Jeannette Pitts, shared how meaningful the event is to the community.

“The Bed Race is something people look forward to all year,” Pitts said. “Whether you come to cheer, laugh, or compete, it brings the whole community together in such a fun and festive way. We loved welcoming new teams this year and celebrating those who keep coming back. It’s all part of the joy.”

“This event is made possible because so many people give their time and energy,” she shared. “We are grateful for our sponsors, town staff, volunteers, and committee members who bring so much heart to this tradition.”
