Upcoming Changes to Davie County’s Recycling Program Do Not Affect Town Residents

  Due to changes in the value of recyclables in global markets, Republic Services is making changes to its county-wide recycling program effective July 1, 2021. These changes do not affect residents in Mocksville, Bermuda Run, and Cooleemee. Town residents will continue to receive free curbside recycling pickup per the contract Republic Services has with each town. For frequently asked questions about the upcoming changes click here.

Davie County’s Weekly Vaccine Clinics Continue – Group 4 Now Eligible

COVID rates in Davie County have declined as the number of residents who are vaccinated continues to go up.  More than 10,000 Davie County residents are now at least partially vaccinated according to the state’s vaccination dashboard. Members of Group 4, people with high-risk medical conditions or who live in certain congregate settings, are now eligible for vaccination. Groups 1 -3 (healthcare workers and long-term care staff and residents, older adults, and frontline essential workers) remain eligible and are encouraged to get vaccinated. Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 24th, some places in North Carolina will be able to open at 100% capacity, including museums, aquariums, retail businesses, and salons. During a COVID update on Tuesday, Gov. Roy Cooper also announced that restaurants, breweries, wineries, amusement parks, gyms, and other recreation establishments will be able to have up to 75% capacity indoors and 100% outdoors. Bennett, former police chief of Spencer, North Carolina, and Tryon, North Carolina, has been appointed to serve as the temporary interim executive officer of the Mocksville Police Department by Interim Town Manager Lynn Trivette. Bennett brings an abundance of experience having served in the Statesville Police Department for 18 years, Spencer Police Chief for 8 years, and Tryon Police Chief for 3 ½ years. Mocksville’s Board of Commissioners appointed Kenneth Gamble, current town manager of Denton, North Carolina, as its fifth town manager.  Gamble brings a wealth of experience having served as town manager in Denton for 2 years, and previously as town manager of Stoneville, North Carolina for 5 years.  He also served in Kernersville, North Carolina as a law enforcement officer for 19 years with the last 3 ½ years of his tenure as the chief of police.
