Downtown Mocksville is about to hit a high note—literally! Join the Town of Mocksville on Thursday, July 31, at 11:30 a.m. at Main Street Park as we unveil the newest addition to our vibrant downtown scene: the Community Piano.
This creative and heartwarming project is a labor of love by Sean Lane, an intern for the Town of Mocksville and a devoted advocate for the arts and community engagement. What started as an old, unused piano has been transformed—refurbished, retuned, and beautifully repainted—to become a lasting symbol of spontaneous creativity and connection in the heart of town.
A Piano with Purpose
Nestled near the Mocksville fountain, the Community Piano is more than just a musical instrument—it’s a gathering point. Open to everyone, it invites residents and visitors alike to sit down and share a tune, a moment of reflection, or an impromptu concert. Whether you’re a seasoned pianist or just want to play a few notes, this piano belongs to you.
This “Piano With a Purpose,” combines Lane’s passion for music with service and represents his second winning Davie Respect Initiative Project. The Davie Respect Initiative (DRI) is a challenge for young people aged 12-21 to develop and implement an idea that increases the amount of expressed respect in Davie County.
“Becoming so involved with DRI has really fostered a mindset of improvement and community betterment in me, and when I had this idea, combining a love for music with a love of spreading respect, I knew I had to see it through,” said Lane. “Music is so powerful, it can connect people and really bring a community together.”
