2023 In Review

2023-12-29T10:20:04-05:00

Where has the year gone? It is almost 2024! Is it just me, or does it feel like time seems to go by faster as we get older? Looking back over 2023…Mocksville has had a great year. We partnered with Davie County, Bermuda Run, and Cooleemee in late 2022 to develop an application for All America. We were selected as a finalist in March 2023 and competed in Denver, Colorado in June. Our team brought home one of only 10 All America designations awarded. Everyone in Davie County can be proud of this achievement! The long-awaited roundabout at Miller’s Restaurant was [...]

Mocksville Road Projects

2023-09-14T10:19:52-04:00

Have you noticed an increase in road projects over the last several months? This is the time of year when paving happens. Paving tends to do better when it goes down in the hot summer months; it doesn’t adhere as well when it is cold outside. Municipalities, along with the NC Department of Transportation, make plans throughout the year for projects to happen during a small window of opportunity each calendar year. The Town of Mocksville receives Powell Bill funding, which comes from the gas tax each of us pays when we fill our tanks, to pave streets within the city [...]

Mayor Marklin- All-America Livestream

2023-07-05T10:52:48-04:00

I had the opportunity to watch the live stream of the All-American City competition today. Davie County was one of 20 other communities that sent a delegation to Denver, Colorado, this weekend to compete for the title of “All-American City”. I would have liked to be a part of the delegation, but my daughter’s graduation from Davie High trumped me going to Denver. I watched the group of adults and students talk about youth engagement here in our county and beamed with pride at hearing the talking points brought to life by our young people. Even if we hadn’t won, the [...]

Message From the Mayor – Help Control the Cost of Recycling by Following the Rules

2023-04-03T13:00:48-04:00

I had the opportunity to hear a representative from Republic Waste speak at Rotary last week. The theme for Rotary in March is “Water and Sanitation”. Johnny Lambert gave us an update on Davie County Utilities and Chuck Willis, the engineer for the Town of Mocksville, has updated us regarding what is going on with the infrastructure in Mocksville. After the presentation by Tom Krasenko with Republic Waste, I wanted to pass along some information on recycling we all need to be aware of. When it comes to recycling, everyone has a part to play. When we work together we can [...]

2023 Message from Mayor Marklin

2023-04-03T13:19:18-04:00

What a great Christmas parade in downtown Mocksville! The theme this year was “Rock Around the Clock”. There were several floats with folks in rocking chairs, there were at least two Elvis sightings and lots of music could be heard throughout the parade route. If you happened to attend the parade, you may have noticed the Town of Mocksville sponsored a float for the first time (that I can remember). Normally, some of the town officials ride in old cars and wave as they pass the crowds lining our streets. This year we loaded up an old VW bus on a [...]

Have You Been to Town Lately?

2023-04-03T13:13:53-04:00

Have you been to town lately? I’m not talking about Winston Salem or Salisbury - I am referring to beautiful downtown Mocksville. There are so many things going on this summer in town. Tami Langdon and the Downtown Merchants Group have put together a fabulous list of activities and events that will keep you as busy and engaged as you want to be. There will be movies shown in the evening at the Main Street Park, a farmers market every Wednesday in the former Mocksville Police Department parking lot, along with several concerts on the square. Tami has planned a “Wacky [...]

Mayor Marklin – 2021 End of Year Message

2023-04-03T13:20:26-04:00

Welcome to our newly elected board members! Johnny Frye, Jenny Stevenson, and Carl Lambert were sworn into office at our December 4th meeting. They will join Justin Draughn and Rob Taylor in representing the citizens of Mocksville as we move forward into 2022. Thank you for your willingness to serve. I had the opportunity to have coffee this week at The Factory in downtown Mocksville with a new town resident. He could not believe all of the activity in our small town during the holiday season.  He commented on the number of folks on North Main Street on Halloween, the excitement [...]

A Message from Mayor Marklin – Fall is Finally Here

2023-04-03T13:20:56-04:00

Fall is finally here! With cooler weather upon us, it is time to get out and enjoy some of the events going on in and around our town.  Last weekend you could have chosen between the Platters tribute band at the Brock, the music of Soundcraft at the Masonic Picnic, Cassette Rewind playing at the Davie Community Park, or just dining out at one of our restaurants here in town. On top of all of that, there are football games, soccer matches, tennis matches, and all kinds of sporting events going on for you to attend in and around the [...]

Mocksville Mayor Has A Memorial Day Message

2023-04-03T13:16:05-04:00

Memorial Day Message from Mayor Will Marklin As we head into the Memorial Day weekend I’d like to honor the memory of our servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price to protect our freedom and to thank their families for their sacrifice. Davie County has a rich history of service above self as demonstrated by our memorial marker in front of the county building downtown.  In addition to a remembrance of those we have lost, this Memorial Day Weekend also marks the beginning of Phase 2 of Governor Cooper’s plan to re-open the state. As a reminder, here are the [...]

Statement From Mocksville Mayor Regarding Plan to Reopen

2023-04-03T13:16:21-04:00

Statement From Town of Mocksville Mayor, Will Marklin I’d like to thank you for your efforts at social distancing and staying at home.  I know that it hasn’t been easy, but it has been heartening to see the way you have banded together to support each other during this challenging time.  Over the last several weeks, the Town of Mocksville has adopted the State of North Carolina’s guidelines for slowing the spread of COVID-19. As I’m sure you already know, Governor Cooper has extended the stay at home order through May 8th with a three-phase plan to reopen the state once [...]
