One of the most important responsibilities of the Town of Mocksville’s elected officials and staff is providing exceptional, cost-effective services to our community. We recognize that town revenues are your collective dollars, and we treat them with the care and respect they deserve.

I am pleased to share upcoming positive changes being implemented for the town’s water and sewer utility. After a recommendation from staff, the Board of Commissioners authorized the purchase and installation of new, wireless read digital water meters. What does this mean for each customer?

First, water meters will now be read wirelessly rather than manually. Customers will be informed much more quickly of water usage issues. This new technology will eventually be able to pinpoint spikes in water usage by the hour.

Second, the new water meters will eventually allow each customer to manage their own usage. This new system will help begin the process for customers to check for themselves their current water usage and not wait until the end of a 60-day billing cycle.

Finally, the Town of Mocksville will begin to purchase water from Davie County Public Utilities in March 2026. Davie County is completing construction of a new, state-of-the-art water treatment plant in Cooleemee. Rather than spending millions on debt service to build its own new water treatment plant, the town has reached an agreement to purchase water through the new Davie County plant. This partnership will help drive down the rate of increased processing costs to treat and distribute water.

I thank the commissioners for their wisdom in making this investment in our utilities. As always, I am available to listen and to learn.
