Is 2025 already over? It seems like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year and closing out 2024. It will take me until March to remember to put “2026” on all my documents. The Town of Mocksville has had a great year! I am proud to share some of the highlights as we move into 2026.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this year has been the continued growth of our community spirit. Whether it’s the Night Before Christmas Bed Races, the Halloween Festival on North Main, the Christmas Parade, or our annual Shamrock Run, our residents truly enjoy
coming together for fellowship and fun. I look forward to every opportunity we have to gather—whether it’s reconnecting with old friends or meeting new neighbors who have recently discovered Mocksville. This strong sense of community is what will help Mocksville maintain its “small-town” feel as we grow in population and expand our footprint here in Davie County.

Our town continues to be blessed with continued economic growth. We have seen the expansion of several downtown businesses, as well as new ones opening in the past year. Every dollar spent in our community helps support local charities, ball teams, and school functions, as local businesses give back to our community. We have new businesses popping up on the 601 North corridor, as well. SBA Homes has come to town from Lithuania and has already made a huge impact on Mocksville with job creation and partnering with the town on our
new pickleball courts at Rich Park. We are excited to finally welcome Cook Out to Mocksville after a long wait, and we look forward to additional businesses and developments that are planned for the near future.

Over the past year, we have seen new housing being built throughout Mocksville. Our town has grown into a wonderful place to raise a family, retire, and put down roots. Along with this growth, we are welcoming new faces from across the country who are choosing to call Mocksville home.

The Town of Mocksville continues to maintain an extremely low tax rate compared to other towns of similar size that offer comparable amenities. We are able to do this through continued industrial growth and the leadership of a fiscally conservative Town Board. I look forward to the results of the Comprehensive Plan currently underway and am hopeful that its findings will provide clear direction to help guide the Town Board’s decisions as we move forward.

No one knows exactly what 2026 has in store. Change is inevitable—we can either resist it or embrace it and shape it thoughtfully. By planning for the growth of our community now, we give ourselves the opportunity to look back 20 years from today and know that we acted with intention, guided by a clear vision rather than allowing development to happen haphazardly.

Communities are either moving forward or falling behind; nothing ever stays the same. Let’s work together in 2026 to make decisions that future residents will look back on with pride—and proudly call this town their home.

William J. Marklin III, Mayor
