Summer is over. Mornings over the past week have been cooler, and jackets are coming out of closets. As we approach the end of 2025, we can look forward to all of the events going on around town, some of which have made us famous. Jeanette Pitts, the Town’s event planner, has put together a great lineup this Fall.
The Oaks Festival is back! We will kick off the festival on October 11th with food trucks, live music, and vendors set up throughout downtown. Come and spend the day in town and do some early Christmas shopping.
We will be closing North Main Street on October 31st this year at 5:30 pm for our annual Halloween event. The downtown merchants will have candy, along with the residents who live on Main Street. If you have never experienced Halloween in Mocksville, prepare to be amazed! Thousands of people will take advantage of our safe trick-or-treating environment, and the street will be packed. Thanks in advance to all the residents along Main Street who have kept up this tradition for so many years.
Start making plans for our annual Bed Races that will take place on November 21st. It’s time to decide if your company, church, or civic group would like to build a bed, form a team, and race in this exciting event. There will be dancing in the street, food trucks, and great fun as we cheer for the racers. Let’s lean in to our reputation as “the town that races beds” and make this year’s event the biggest ever.
Heading into December, there will be tree lightings, parades, and carriage rides, as well as visits by Santa…all the things you would expect a small town to have during this time of year. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and the local paper for event times and details.
Finally, as we go into November, be aware of the upcoming opportunity to vote for your local elected officials. Decisions made at the local level have a huge impact on our way of life in a small town. Voting in local elections ensures that your views are represented.
Mocksville residents will also have the opportunity in the upcoming weeks to participate in developing a comprehensive plan for our town. Mocksville is at a crossroads, deciding whether to embrace growth by welcoming new housing, businesses, restaurants, and amenities, or to keep things as they are, preserving the current atmosphere and turning away new development. This is a pivotal decision that could shape the town’s future. Your voice in this process will give direction to the town leadership as we move forward.
