In Mocksville, as part of the Arbor Day Festivities and Tree City USA initiative, people of all ages plant trees in a park. Some are digging while others wield shovels and rakes, united in a community effort under sunny skies with grassy grounds and autumn foliage nearby.

What is Arbor Day?

Arbor Day, derived from the Latin word “arbor,” meaning tree, is a global celebration dedicated to planting, maintaining, and appreciating trees. Communities worldwide observe this day in various ways, emphasizing the vital role trees play in our environment and daily lives.

What is Tree City USA?

Tree City USA is a national program that sets the standard for sound urban forestry management. To achieve and maintain Tree City USA status, communities must meet four key criteria annually, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to green spaces and sustainable forestry practices.

A Team Effort

Maintaining Mocksville’s Tree City USA status requires dedication and hard work. “The Town of Mocksville appreciates the dedication and service of our Tree Board Members: Susan Hawkins, Carl Lambert, Judy Rosser, and Alex Thompson, as well as the hard work of Park and Grounds Director Chris Vaughn and the rest of his team,” said Human Resources Director Emily Quance. “Trees and community have never been more important.”
