Why This Matters

As per North Carolina regulations, every town must have a clerk responsible for maintaining important local government records, including the minutes of governing board meetings. These records are essential for ensuring accountability and preserving the history of our governance for future generations.

Benefits of Recording and Sharing Board Meetings

“As the clerk of the Town of Mocksville, I am thrilled to share the numerous benefits that recording and sharing our board meetings bring,” said Lynn Trivette, assistant town manager/town clerk.

  1. Improved Public Access
Recording meetings allow residents who cannot attend in person to stay informed about the decisions and discussions that shape our community.
  2. Reference and Accountability
Recorded meetings provide a detailed record that can be referred back to for specific details and procedures, promoting transparency and accountability.
  3. Enhanced Meeting Effectiveness
Watching recorded meetings helps evaluate the effectiveness and conduct of the sessions. It allows us to identify areas for improvement such as tone, speed, mannerisms, and engagement.
  4. Reduced Miscommunication
Recordings help eliminate confusion and miscommunication by providing a clear and accurate account of the discussions and decisions made.
  5. Increased Transparency
Sharing our meetings online fosters a culture of openness, increasing trust and strengthening relationships within our community.
  6. Staff Training Resource
Recorded meetings can serve as valuable training resources for new and existing staff, offering real-life examples of procedures and discussions.

“We are committed to ensuring that our community remains informed and engaged. By making our board meetings accessible on YouTube, we are taking a significant step towards achieving that goal,” Trivette said.
