Stephanie Shoffner and son, Weston, celebrate the grand opening of Lydia Jaynes with family and friends.

“She’s got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty. She’s got whozits and whatzits galore… “ Stephanie Shoffner has opened a home decor, furniture, and gift store in Historic Downtown Mocksville that is fit for a princess.

Lydia Jaynes, located at 43 Court Square, celebrated its grand opening Thursday, April 8,  with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Davie County Chamber of Commerce.  The community was invited to browse the store while enjoying refreshments from Ketchie Creek and Restaurant 101. One lucky shopper received a $100 gift certificate from the store.

A Davie girl, born and bred, Stephanie, who has a degree in interior design, is excited to bring her years of design and furniture expertise to her hometown. Eager to help residents develop a look of their own, she says that each item at Lydia Jaynes has been curated for a fresh look and feel to take the guesswork out of the design process. Her mantra, “If you fill your home with things you love, you will love the home you have.”

She has always dreamed of owning her own store and becoming an entrepreneur but life initially took her in a different direction. Stephanie gained a wealth of design experience at Precision Decorating, Ethan Allen, and most recently Beaufurn, where she was business operations manager. It was her five-year-old son, Weston, who provided the incentive she needed to make her original dream a reality.

Weston, who started kindergarten last fall, had no school or childcare on Wednesdays.  Because of cutbacks associated with COVID, Shoffner was able to stay home with him on those days. “While I was blessed to have that opportunity, it is a lot to tell an employer that you need to stay home with your child. I am hoping that the store will allow me the opportunity to make him my priority and be available whether it is school or a sporting event or something else without having to ask off from an employer. It is my biggest blessing to be able to spend as much time with him as I can.”

While Weston is her inspiration, she explains that the store’s name is a loving tribute to his grandmothers, two women who have had an amazing impact on her life – Lydia “Darlene” (Shew) Fuller and Mary Jayne (Phelps) McClamroch.  “They are both very strong women and I aspire to be like them.”

“There have been many days of self-doubt but my mom just keeps pushing me long saying ‘keep going, just keep going,’ she said with a smile.  “I don’t know where all this going to take me but I can’t wait to find out.” She is also grateful for the support of her dad, Phil Fuller, her sister, Julie Fuller Holt, and the many family members and friends who have helped her along the way.

Lydia Jaynes offers home decor, furniture, and gifts at every price point suitable for every budget. Some items come standard while others are completely customizable. There is new inventory arriving daily. Stephanie is confident that she has something for everyone and offers this invitation to the community, “I hope that you will visit often,  find inspiration, and pick up some things for your home that you love while you’re here.”
