‘Twas the Night Before Bed Races!

Presented by the Mocksville Tourism Authority, the annual “Twas The Night Before Bed Race” has become one of Mocksville’s most popular events with dozens of teams competing for the cheers of the fans and $600 in cash prizes.

Get your teams together and begin planning now to compete in the hilarious, fun, yet competitive bed races on Friday, November 16th at 6:00 PM!

Compete for $600 in Prizes!
Awards will take place in the square. However, you will need to come by Town Hall the following week to pick up your check. If you would like to donate your prize money to a charity of your choice please stop by Town Hall with your charities information.

1st Place – $200, 2nd Place – $125, 3rd Place – $75, Senior 1st Place – $100, Most Outrageous Team – $50, Total Package – $50

Hurricane Florence Update

“The Town of Mocksville and Davie County Emergency Management continues to monitor the path of Hurricane Florence. Based on information received from the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center, Davie County should anticipate:

  • Early Thursday morning: rain and the potential arrival of high winds.
  • Friday through Sunday: sustained periods of heavy rain with the potential of 7-10 inches total accumulation with tropical storm force winds.

Residents are encouraged to keep cell phones charged in advance of the storm. In the event that you experience a power outage, please DO NOT call 9-1-1. Outages can be reported to the following:

In the event of widespread power outages or severe flooding, emergency shelters will be established and additional communication will be forthcoming. Mill Fest Music Festival ~ Rescheduled ~ Saturday, September 29th Noon-10:30 PM!

Don’t miss the Triad’s premier late summer music festival that will bring together a variety of awesome talent to downtown Mocksville! Because of Hurricane Florence, Mill Fest has been rescheduled for noon – 10:30 p.m. on September 29th at Junker’s Mill Outdoor Theater located at 107 S. Salisbury Street.

“The Mill Fest Music Festival brings together bands that are local favorites along with rising stars on the music scene,” said Tami Langdon, community development coordinator. “Along with the variety of music, we’ll have food trucks and beverages for the whole family. This is a wonderful way to wind down the summer and enjoy all that historic Mocksville has to offer. The Mill Fest is a family-friendly event with something for everyone!”

“We’re offering sponsorship packages beginning at just $100 which includes your logo on all advertising as well as tickets to the Mill Fest. It’s a great way to show your support for Mocksville and the activities that make our town awesome and unique!” she added.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase – no coolers, please. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the fun.

This festival is hosted by Mocksville Tourism Development Authority and Davie County Recreation and Parks.

Look Who’s Coming!

Noon –  1:45 p.m.
Poundcake with Tom Elmore and his straight-up rock and roll band. Capturing the classic rock of the 70’s and 80’s including ACDC, Tom Petty, Aerosmith and all of the best rockers of the time, you’ll be on your feet! Pound Cake is a hit on every stage they perform!

2:15 – 3:45 p.m.
A local favorite, Exit 180 plays authentic rock, classic and Southern rock along with familiar country songs that you can sing and dance to. Exit 180 has a unique sound using acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and soaring harmonies. They play a wide range of music appealing to all ages!

4:15 – 5:30 p.m.  
Self-proclaimed as the Triad’s only “middle-aged boy band,” The Pop Guns specialize in 70’s and 80’s danceable pop/rock. They also like to play games like “name that TV theme song,” so if you are looking for a band working to make live music fun, check them out!

6 – 7:45 p.m.
Georgia-born and raised in King, North Carolina, Tiffany Ashton was named “Best Country Artist by the Hollywood Music & Media Awards and a 2018 Nashville Universe Rising Star. Tiffany brings her unique vocals, vulnerable lyrics and intertwines them with her vibrant modern country sound for a show you won’t soon forget!

8:15 – 10:30 p.m.
Big Daddy Mojo has an award-winning blues-rock sound like no other! Soulfulness and energy infuse everything they play. A frequent performer and a hometown favorite all over North Carolina, Big Daddy Mojo provides an electrifying show. You’ll stomp your feet and clap your hands to the sound of blues, R&B, and rock!

“Volunteers are always welcome,” said Langdon. “We need each volunteer for 2 hours and you’ll get food and drink tickets, too.”

Free Event ~ Family Movie in the Park ~ Friday, September 21st!

Bring your family & friends to Downtown Mocksville for a free outdoor showing of Tangled on Friday, September 21st. The movie will begin at 8:45 p.m. at Main Street Park.

Loosely based on the German fairy taleRapunzel“, Tangled tells the story of a lost, young princess with magical long blonde hair who yearns to leave her secluded tower. Against her mother’s wishes, she accepts the aid of an intruder to take her out into the world which she has never seen. Viewers of all ages will be entertained by this charming Disney movie. PG — 140 minutes.

Tangled is the final of four movies that the Davie County Library and the Town of Mocksville have hosted at the park this summer.

Please bring your own chair or a blanket for seating. Bring your own snacks or purchase from SCOOP’S Ice Cream, The Factory Coffee House, or our other local restaurants.

2018 Christmas Parade Saturday, December 1st – Registration Now Open!

There are only 90 days left before the Hometown Christmas Parade, and it’s never too early to begin planning your float! This year’s parade through historic downtown Mocksville will be held on Saturday, December 1st, beginning at 2 p.m.

Mocksville’s Concerts on the Square this Saturday, August 25th – Brad Ratledge & The Happy Ones

Enjoy a little soft rock and country as one of Mocksville’s hometown bands, Brad Ratledge & The Happy Ones, takes center stage this Saturday night, August 25th, from 7- 10 p.m.in the quad near Restaurant 101 in downtown Mocksville. Their performance is the final concert in the free Concerts on the Square series sponsored by the Town of Mocksville.

Open up the musical blender, stuff it full of Train, Maroon 5, Tom Petty, Little Big Town, The Eagles, PUSH PLAY and you’ve got, The Happy Ones! Band members include Brad Ratledge-Guitar & Lead Vocals, Amanda Barnette-Vocals & Percussion, and Jason Hamilton-Guitar, Percussion & Vocals.

Bring your lawn chairs. Enjoy downtown Mocksville restaurants, retail shops, and ice cream and gourmet coffee shops.

Resolution of the Mocksville Town Board fixing date of public hearing on question of annexation pursuant to G.S. 160A-31

WHEREAS, a petition requesting annexation of the area described herein has been received; and

WHEREAS, the Mocksville Town Board has by resolution directed the Town Clerk to investigate the sufficiency of the petition; and

WHEREAS, certification of the Town Clerk as to the sufficiency of the petition has been made;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Board of the Town of Mocksville, North Carolina, that:

Section 1.         A public hearing on the question of annexation of the area described herein will be held at the Mocksville Town Hall, 171 S. Clement Street, Mocksville, NC 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September, 4, 2018.

 

Section 2.         The area proposed for annexation is described as follows:

Legal Description

Tract 1 – PIN 5739147484 (Part) F.G.M.

Being a parcel of land situate in Mocksville Township, Davie County North Carolina being described by the following metes and bounds description:

BEGINNING at an existing t-bar and cap in the northern margin of Koontz Road, State Road 1404 marking the southeastern corner of Black Dog Associates, LLC as shown on a map recorded in Plat Book 08 Page 328 and as recorded and described in Deed Book 920 Page 516 in the office of the Register of Deeds of Davie County, North Carolina, said beginning point having NCGS NAO 83/2011 Grid Coordinates of North 793,436.0551 and East 1,531,288.6102; thence running along the eastern line of said Black Dog Associates, LLC North 01°43’17” East

409.39 feet to an existing ¾ inch rebar marking the southeastern corner of Betty G. Frost

Revocable Trust as recorded and described in Deed Book 664 Page 998 in said Davie County Registry; thence along the eastern line of said Frost Revocable Trust the following two (2) courses and distances: 1) North 00°26’57” East 808.45 feet to a rebar; thence 2) North  00°24’42” East 13.67 feet to a new iron pipe; thence along a new line the following two (2) courses and distances: 1) South 89°11’02” East 460.78 feet to a new iron pipe; thence 2) South 00°52’00” West 857.22 feet to a new iron pipe in said northern margin of Koontz Road, State Road 1404; thence along said northern margin the following four (4) courses and distances: 1) along a curve to the right having a radius of 3039.0 feet and an arc length of 64.44 feet, a chord bearing and distance of South 77°38’16” West 64.44 feet to a computed point; thence 2) South 77°15’29” West 107.54 feet to a computed point; thence 3) along a curve to the left having a radius of 370.0 feet and an arc length of 377.90 feet, a chord bearing and distance of South 47°59’54” West 361.69 feet to a computed point; thence 4) South 18°44’19” West 93.02 feet to the point and place of BEGINNING containing an area of 10.00 acres more or less.

Section 3.         Notice of the public hearing shall be published in the Davie County Enterprise, a newspaper having general circulation in the Town of Mocksville, at least ten (10) days prior to the date of the public hearing.

Adopted this 7th Day of August, 2018 by the Mocksville Town Board.

Free Games and Free Movie at Main Street Park in Mocksville this Thursday and Friday!

Let the games begin! Enjoy board games, hopscotch, cornhole, giant Jenga, relay contests, and more at Main Street Park from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Bring a friend or make a friend while playing a game of Clue, brainteasers, Pokemon, and MORE.

Free Movie in the Park – Friday, August 17th
Bring your family and friends back to Main Street Park on Friday night for a free outdoor showing of Black Panther beginning at 8:45 p.m.

Black Panther is the third of four movies the Davie County Library and the Town of Mocksville will be hosting at the park. The final free outdoor movie of the season will be Tangled (PG) on Friday, September 21st at 8:45 p.m.

Rock it out with  60 Watt Combo this Saturday night, August 11th,  from 7 p.m-10 p.m in the quad near Restaurant 101 in downtown Mocksville.

60 Watt Combo hails themselves as “three long-time friends – rocking-out on tunes we dig playing, whether they be rhythm & blues or straight Rock ‘n Roll.” Seasoned musicians, each has played with a number of groups and bands over the years. This small band with a big sounds consists of Ed Dodson and Steve Hodge on guitar and Bob Tarleton on drums.

Their musical repertoire includes classics like Roadhouse – The Doors; Don’t Bring Me Down – The Animals; You Wreck Me – Petty & the Heartbreakers; Let the Good Times Roll – Jimi Hendrix; I’ve Got a Woman – Ray Charles; Come on Everybody – Eddie Cochran, and many more!
