Free Games and Free Movie at Main Street Park in Mocksville this Thursday and Friday!

The free family fun never ends at the Main Street Park in downtown Mocksville! This week enjoy games on Thursday afternoon and a movie on Friday night.

Free Games in the Park -Thursday, August 16th
Let the games begin! Enjoy board games, hopscotch, cornhole, giant Jenga, relay contests, and more at Main Street Park from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Bring a friend or make a friend while playing a game of Clue, brainteasers, Pokemon, and MORE.

Bring a sack lunch or purchase one from a local restaurant. Cold refreshments will be provided.

Free Movie in the Park – Friday, August 17th
Bring your family and friends back to Main Street Park on Friday night for a free outdoor showing of Black Panther beginning at 8:45 p.m.

After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Black Panther is the third of four movies the Davie County Library and the Town of Mocksville will be hosting at the park. The final free outdoor movie of the season will be Tangled (PG) on Friday, September 21st at 8:45 p.m.

Please bring your own chair or a blanket for seating.  Bring your own snacks or purchase from SCOOP’S Ice Cream, The Factory Coffee House, or our other local restaurants.

Public Notice – Special Meeting 8/20

A special meeting of the Mocksville Board of Commissioners will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 6:00pm in the Board Room at Town Hall, located at 171 S. Clement Street, Mocksville, North Carolina, for the following purpose:

1. Under NC GS 143-318.11 (a)(6) the Board will go into closed session to consider the qualifications, competence, performance, character, fitness, conditions of appointment, or conditions of initial employment of an individual public officer or employee.

Free Concert on the Square in Mocksville – Saturday, August 11

Rock it out with  60 Watt Combo this Saturday night, August 11th,  from 7 p.m-10 p.m in the quad near Restaurant 101 in downtown Mocksville.

60 Watt Combo hails themselves as “three long-time friends – rocking-out on tunes we dig playing, whether they be rhythm & blues or straight Rock ‘n Roll.” Seasoned musicians, each has played with a number of groups and bands over the years. This small band with a big sounds consists of Ed Dodson and Steve Hodge on guitar and Bob Tarleton on drums.

Their musical repertoire includes classics like Roadhouse – The Doors; Don’t Bring Me Down – The Animals; You Wreck Me – Petty & the Heartbreakers; Let the Good Times Roll – Jimi Hendrix; I’ve Got a Woman – Ray Charles; Come on Everybody – Eddie Cochran, and many more!

Enjoy a little slice of Americana as Mel Jones & His Bag O’Bones takes the stage this Saturday night, July 28th, from 7 p.m-10 p.m in the quad near Restaurant 101 in downtown Mocksville.

Mel Jones & His Bag O’Bones

Mel Jones has been playing his brand of Americana music for more than 25 years, blending blues, jazz, bluegrass, and soul and appearing alongside the likes of David Holt, Rhonda Vincent, Sam Bush, Doc Watson and more. Wailing on the harmonica and belting out the blues, Jones proves himself a timeless musician skillfully combining traditional sounds to create a fast-paced show that keeps the crowd involved.

The Bones have played numerous festivals and venues up and down the east coast since the early 1990’s and have released 3 CD’s featuring Mel’s original material. Stellar musicianship is at the heart of every Bones performance but Mel has always believed that the audience should be a part of the show and enjoy themselves. As Mel fond of saying “When they walk out the end of our show we want a big smile on everybody’s face.”

The Bones consist of veteran, award winning musicians Don Story on guitar, Calvin Johnson on bass, Kip Snow on mandolin, John Hofmann on fiddle, and Larry Carmen on drums.

Kids Art Crawl This Thursday in Main Street Park

Is summer boredom getting the better of your family? Looking for an exciting, inexpensive activity to entertain your kids? Head to Main Street Park in downtown Mocksville on Thursday, July 26th, from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. for the FIRST Kids Art Crawl.

The FEE IS $5 PER CHILD. Local artist, Bruce White, owner and instructor at Wild Mountain Designs & Art will be offering five different art stations: clay, squirt gun abstract pennants, artificial stained glass, string, and painting.

Bring a sack lunch or purchase one from a local restaurant.

Michael Decker will be there during lunch for balloon art and magic. Cold refreshments will be provided.

Free Progressive Storybook in the Park — Friday, July 20th

Mocksville’s new downtown park is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic and a story, so you won’t want to miss  the progressive storybook, “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 20th.

Participants will be led through a series of storyboards that share the charming story of a bear and a sandwich, followed by some cold refreshments.  

This free family event is sponsored by the Davie County Public Library and the Town of Mocksville.

Bring your lunch or purchase one from our local restaurants and bring a chair or a blanket for seating.

The storyboards will be left in place until 5 p.m. for those who are unable to attend the event.

Mocksville Accepts Town Manager Resignation

Marcus Abernethy resigned as Town Manager.  Marcus worked tirelessly for the Town and accomplished a great deal in the time he was here.  On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and the Town staff, we wish him every success in the future.  Marcus’ resignation is effective on June 1, 2018.  Lynn Trivette, Town Clerk and Finance Officer, is appointed Interim Town Manager.  The Town will immediately begin a search for a new permanent Manager.

Notice of Public Hearing Mocksville Town Board of Commissioners

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, in accordance with requirements within Chapter IV, Article 4.3
of the Town of Mocksville Code of Ordinances, the Town Board of Commissioners will conduct
a Public Hearing on Tuesday, February 6th, 2018 at 6:00 P.M., or immediately following routine
items of business on the Town Board’s Regular Meeting Agenda. The Public Hearing will be
held at Town Hall, 171 S. Clement St., Mocksville, NC.

The purpose of the hearing is for the Town Board to decide if Mocksville desires to partner with
the NC State Parks in the Greenway expansion project and intends to submit an application to the
NC Parks Recreational Trails Grant Program. The intent of the Recreational Trails Program is to
help fund trails and trail-related recreational needs and its goals are closely aligned with the
goals of the Town of Mocksville’s Greenway expansion.
