A Message From the Mayor – Spring 2026

2026-04-06T16:31:38-04:00

The 35th Annual Shamrock Run is in the history books. The race is over, and the medals have all been handed out. We have packed up the tents and put away the signs until next year. Coming together as a community is what living in a “small town” is all about. I love seeing the runners who come out each year and support the non-profits that benefit from the annual run. We had folks here from neighboring counties, some young first-time racers who were nervous about a long road race, and some folks who decided they just needed to get out [...]

Your Mayor’s Message – Winter 2026

2026-02-12T10:33:09-05:00

Is 2025 already over? It seems like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year and closing out 2024. It will take me until March to remember to put “2026” on all my documents. The Town of Mocksville has had a great year! I am proud to share some of the highlights as we move into 2026. One of the most rewarding aspects of this year has been the continued growth of our community spirit. Whether it’s the Night Before Christmas Bed Races, the Halloween Festival on North Main, the Christmas Parade, or our annual Shamrock Run, our residents truly [...]

A Message from the Mayor – Fall 2025

2025-09-25T11:56:24-04:00

Summer is over. Mornings over the past week have been cooler, and jackets are coming out of closets. As we approach the end of 2025, we can look forward to all of the events going on around town, some of which have made us famous.  Jeanette Pitts, the Town’s event planner, has put together a great lineup this Fall.  The Oaks Festival is back! We will kick off the festival on October 11th with food trucks, live music, and vendors set up throughout downtown. Come and spend the day in town and do some early Christmas shopping. We will be closing [...]

A Spring Message from the Mayor

2025-06-20T10:54:13-04:00

One of my favorite things about being the Mayor of Mocksville has been my newfound appreciation for our water and sewer infrastructure. My wife and children laugh when someone asks me about our new water plant or sewer plant improvements, and I light up like a Christmas tree. I am amazed at the miles of pipe, the number of valves in the system, the water towers that aid in pressure, and the safety cutoffs put in place throughout the system. Most people never even consider all that goes into providing these essential services until there is a failure in the system.  [...]

News Around Town

2024-10-07T19:32:45-04:00

It’s official - I am now a senior citizen! Believe it or not, I have reached the age where I can now join the Davie County Senior Center. It feels like just yesterday that I graduated from Davie High with the Class of 1987. Now I get to enjoy all of the benefits of being a “Senior Citizen.” The Davie Senior Center is top-notch and is highly rated in comparison to our surrounding counties. I had the pleasure of being the emcee for this year’s Ms. Senior Davie pageant. Michelle Ellis and Carrie Miller do an excellent job with every aspect [...]

Summer 2024 in Mocksville

2024-06-13T12:08:12-04:00

This is certainly not a summer for being bored in Mocksville. There are so many things going on over the next few months that you would have to work hard to have a moment of boredom. The Davie Community Park kicked off their concert series last Saturday with Diamond Rio. Thenumber of cars in the parking lot reminded me of the football playoff games Davie hosted several years back. For those who didn’t want to attend the large concert, there were two options downtown: live music on the square and at The Station. The weather was beautiful, and all the live [...]

Spring is Here!

2024-10-06T19:04:50-04:00

Spring is here! The Popsicle Run and Shamrock 5k are behind us, so now we can ease into warmer weather. I would have liked to see a bit more snow over the winter months but am glad that we didn’t have to deal with icy roads and school closings that would push the end of the school year further into the summer months. We actually had a fairly mild winter. Be sure to keep a close eye on the calendar for all the events happening over the next several months. There are concerts, festivals, movies in the park, and many other [...]

2023 In Review

2023-12-29T10:20:04-05:00

Where has the year gone? It is almost 2024! Is it just me, or does it feel like time seems to go by faster as we get older? Looking back over 2023…Mocksville has had a great year. We partnered with Davie County, Bermuda Run, and Cooleemee in late 2022 to develop an application for All America. We were selected as a finalist in March 2023 and competed in Denver, Colorado in June. Our team brought home one of only 10 All America designations awarded. Everyone in Davie County can be proud of this achievement! The long-awaited roundabout at Miller’s Restaurant was [...]

Mocksville Road Projects

2023-09-14T10:19:52-04:00

Have you noticed an increase in road projects over the last several months? This is the time of year when paving happens. Paving tends to do better when it goes down in the hot summer months; it doesn’t adhere as well when it is cold outside. Municipalities, along with the NC Department of Transportation, make plans throughout the year for projects to happen during a small window of opportunity each calendar year. The Town of Mocksville receives Powell Bill funding, which comes from the gas tax each of us pays when we fill our tanks, to pave streets within the city [...]

Mayor Marklin- All-America Livestream

2023-07-05T10:52:48-04:00

I had the opportunity to watch the live stream of the All-American City competition today. Davie County was one of 20 other communities that sent a delegation to Denver, Colorado, this weekend to compete for the title of “All-American City”. I would have liked to be a part of the delegation, but my daughter’s graduation from Davie High trumped me going to Denver. I watched the group of adults and students talk about youth engagement here in our county and beamed with pride at hearing the talking points brought to life by our young people. Even if we hadn’t won, the [...]
