Spring is just around the corner. Flowers are beginning to bloom, trees are starting to bud, and the fountain in Mocksville’s downtown park will be turned back on soon. It has been a long, wet winter. I am looking forward to sunshine and warmer weather. You will see final touches on our town square over the next few weeks. The sidewalks will be connected and lights installed atop our new mast arm poles. Before long, we will be enjoying movies in the park and the sidewalks will be filled with folks eating ice cream in front of Scoops and enjoying walks along Main Street.
I had the opportunity today to go to Salisbury and accept a “Main Street Champion” award on behalf of the town. Mocksville was recognized among the top municipalities in our state for the outstanding job it does in promoting our downtown area. Many thanks to Denise Hendrix, Tami Langdon, and Melissa Curran for all of their work on our Downtown Bed Race and the many other events hosted in our town that promote tourism and business. A resurgence in our downtown area does not happen by accident. It takes collaboration between business owners, restaurant owners, and local government to make a small town thrive. Folks behind the scenes like our Public Works and Parks Department are crucial in keeping everything clean, green, and operating. Not to mention the effort by our Mocksville Police Department in keeping our streets safe and crime in check. Please take the time over the next several weeks to experience downtown Mocksville. Do your part by shopping and eating local to help our town stay vibrant and thriving for many years to come.
